MnDOT sponsors workshop for veteran owned small businesses
To help identify and verify veteran-owned small businesses and increase their participation on state funded projects, the Minnesota Department of Transportation has initiated the veterans outreach project, which includes workshops, across the state of Minnesota.
The next veteran’s workshop is scheduled for Thursday, Jan., 31, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The Hiway Federal Credit Union, 840 Westminster St. in St. Paul. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m., or attendees can register at www.mnptac.org. There is no charge for the workshop, however registration is highly encouraged due to space limitations.
The workshop will provide insights regarding:
- How veteran preference is administered at MnDOT and other state agencies
- Eligibility requirements for veteran-owned small businesses
- Overview of the veteran verification process
- Next steps for veteran businesses in Minnesota
- Upcoming state projects
- Networking with prime contractors and other key stakeholders
“MnDOT contracted out more than $200 million in state-construction projects in 2012, which included veteran-owned small businesses” said Alex Tittle, deputy director of MnDOT’s Office of Civil Rights, “This project provides the state with a tangible way to thank military veterans for their sacrifice and help improve employment conditions for veterans across Minnesota.”
